Oxford Dict. says "No way" (like Eugenia said) and also "you must be joking/kidding" (and lots of other ways to use it...
Could you use it in this way in Spanish? : "No voy a poner ese sombrero, ¡ ni de coña !" ? ("I'm not putting on that hat, not even as a joke!" or "There's no way I'm putting on that hat!")When people tease one another in Spain, by saying something mean, can't it be followed with "¡es de coña!" o "lo decía de coña" (ie: just kidding/joking!)
Anyway, I never found "ni de coña" to be offensive, but I guess I just got used to all the crazy swears & I just stopped mentally translating them after a couple of years! ...
I always thought the funniest ones were "me cago en la leche/mar" or, in Andalucía, "mecágonlaleshe" / "mecágonlamá" !!
